There’s a shoebox under every bed. We have keychains from family vacations in early adolescence. We have photographs from our grandparents, and second grade best friends. Maybe a letter from someone loved, and lost. There is a drawing on a napkin from a night out, left by a stranger. A baby shoe, a birthday card. We keep mementos and mini altars, to what once was, and never will be again. The ephemeral lives on through memory.
Mementos serves as a resting place for the impermanence, the past versions, and the recollections. In this exhibition, Ninety-Seven Modern highlights reminiscent works, as an ode to the past versions of us, whoever they may be.
