Sofia Bicego

Sofia Bicego is a sculptor and installation artist from Warren, Michigan and currently working in the Metro Detroit Area. Through labor-intensive and mediative methods of making, Sofia creates codependency between object and author, balancing the taking from and caretaking of material. In addition to their solo exhibition at Huron Valley Council for the Arts (Highland, MI), Sofia has shown work in group shows at Swords into Plowshares Peace Center and Gallery (Detroit, MI), U245 Gallery (Detroit, MI), 333 Midland Annex Gallery (Detroit, MI), Reyes | Finn (Detroit, MI), M Contemporary (Detroit, MI), MOCAD (Detroit, MI), and Orion Art Center (Lake Orion, MI). Sofia also exhibited site-specific installations at the Herman Kiefer Medical Complex (Detroit, MI), Bulk Sanctuary (Detroit, MI), and The Residency Project @ 1303 (Silverton, CO). They were awarded Residencies by The Residency Project (Silverton, CO) and Walkaway House (North Adams, MA). Sofia was also awarded the Pierce Hopkins Memorial Scholarship to attend the MARBLE/marble Stone Carving Symposium in Marble, CO. Sofia is a graduate from the College for Creative Studies, receiving a BFA in Art Practice with a minor in Ceramics.
